Puppies & Kittens

Regular Visits Should Begin in the Earliest Years for Puppies & Kittens

Just as the needs of human infants are different than those of adults, puppies and kittens need different care than their older counterparts. Because of their small size, they are much more susceptible to dehydration, low blood sugar, and other ailments. Regular physical examinations and vaccinations can help your puppy or kitten live a happy, healthy life.

Puppies & Kittens

At Four Paws Animal Hospital, we believe regular visits to Dr. Trahan should begin as soon as you acquire your puppy or kitten. At the initial visit, we start a standard vaccine protocol based on the age, health, breed, and size of your pet. If the breed recommendation is to have the tail docked and/or the dewclaws removed, you need to see us within 3–5 days after birth.

Did you know there are several intestinal parasites that can be passed from your pet to you and your family? Parasites are especially harmful to younger pets and can be present at birth. We recommend you bring a fresh stool sample in a clean container to each puppy/kitten visit. This sample is then tested for intestinal parasites and, if needed, we will send home a routine medicine to de-worm your pet.

We want to be a part of your pet’s health from the first weeks of life.
