Preventative Pet Care: Striving to Prevent Illness Whenever Possible
At Four Paws Animal Hospital, we strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners.
Each wellness program is designed specifically for your pet and includes a comprehensive physical exam, intestinal parasite testing, heartworm testing, wellness blood screening, electrocardiogram, vaccination program, heartworm and flea prevention, and routine de-worming.
Another aspect of our wellness program is to encourage sterilization (spay or castration/neutering) at 5½–6 months of age.
This is important for many reasons:
- Millions of animals are euthanized each year because there are not enough homes
- It avoids certain health risks, such as uterine infections and mammary tumors in females and prostate issues in males
- It reduces inappropriate behaviors, such as roaming, urine marking, and aggression
