Pet Vaccinations

Pet Vaccinations Help Keep Your Pet Healthy & Happy

At Four Paws Animal Hospital, we tailor our vaccine protocol to the needs and potential risks of each individual pet. This ensures that your pet receives only those immunizations that he or she needs.

Pet Vaccinations

We perform an intestinal parasite exam and routinely de-worm at every puppy and kitten visit. We recommend every kitten be tested for FeLV/FIV and have the initial kitten leukemia vaccine series; after 1 year of age, only vaccinate for leukemia if the cat is indoor/outdoor or exposed to another cat that is indoor/outdoor.

We vaccinate all puppies and kittens 1 year from the date of their last puppy/kitten series for DAPP and rabies, and then recommend vaccinating for DAPP and rabies every other year.

We offer vaccination against lepto for those animals with high-risk exposure. We also offer ferret distemper and rabies vaccines.

The following is our vaccination schedule for dogs, cats and kittens.

Dogs:

  • 8 weeks - 1st DAPP
  • 12 weeks - 2nd DAPP, 1st bordetella
  • 16 weeks - 3rd DAPP, 1st rabies

Dogs over 6 months should always be tested for heartworms and have this test repeated annually.

Cats:

  • 8 weeks - 1st FVRCP
  • 12 weeks - FeLV/FIV test, 2nd FVRCP, 1st leukemia
  • 16 weeks - 3rd FVRCP, 2nd leukemia, 1st rabies

In the case of kittens, we believe that prior to vaccination they should be tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS. This is a simple blood test we do during your kitten's appointment and only takes 8 - 10 minutes. It is then recommended annually for cats with exposure to the outdoors.

If you choose to get a pet from the Humane Society, take in a stray, or inherit a pet, it should be brought in for a full physical exam as soon as possible. If the vaccine history is unknown, we will recommend a series to make sure your new pet is protected.
